What Is Happening With The Kitchen?

Renovations are progressing. Below is a layout of the changes. The back entrance has been enclosed. This area is now a storage area. Once renovations begin this door will be closed off to the public. There will be a new entrance at the end of the building. There are a couple of refrigerators at the end of the banquet room by Jill's office. That is approximately where the new door will be located.

The current kitchen will be expanding to include the hallway that goes from the current back door into the banquet room. It will back up to where the cupboards are where food is served during big events.

The kitchen has been inspected by engineers. A new exhaust hood is required. Unfortunately, some of the parts for the hood are on back order. They are expected to be in around April. While we are waiting for the parts, other improvements will continue. The next project will be the installation of the new entrance.

Updates will be posted as we recieve them.

History of the Kitchen

The kitchen started out with quite a humble beginning as a storage closet. It was being felt that we needed something more than just a bar. Space was limited, so a closet was converted into a kitchen. Meals started being served on Friday and Saturday evenings with side dishes being brought in by Moose members. However, it was discovered that food that was being sold had to be prepared in the kitchen at the Moose. So, Rob Young got out his trusty sledge hammer and pounded out another wall to make the kitchen bigger to solve that problem.

Another addition happened around 2015/2016. This is when dinners started being served each night. Rob and Jill Young ran the kitchen alone until it got more than they could handle by themselves. At that time, a local school had a culinary arts program and they hired one of the students from the program to help. Since then the kitchen has been manned by employees with volunteers helping during big events.

In 2021 it was decided that the kitchen needed to be expanded again and updates made. A facilities committee was formed to plan for the expansion that we are now collecting funds for. Some other improvements were also made at that time such as new carpeting. A storage area was also added to the north end of the building.

In the fall of 2022 a letter was sent to all members asking for donations to fund a new kitchen. As everyone can see, a larger and updated kitchen is a necessity in order to meet the demands of the number of members we have and to support our community.

Moose International requires a meeting to be held open to all members and a vote must be taken to approve the expenditure of any expenditures of over $5,000. That meeting was held in the summer of 2023. We had a full house and a unanimous vote of YES was made from our members. With that approval, we have also received permission from Moose International to proceed.

At this time, we do not have any specific dates as to when we will start building process. This will all depend on meeting our financial goals and the availability of contractors.
